“A Safe Kingdom; A Sad King”

In the report of good news of defeat of the rebels of God and His Kingdom, King David receives it as bad news because of his guilt and his value of wicked son over the Kingdom of God. This warns us of the danger of allowing our loyalty to family to supersede loyalty to God and his Kingdom.

In David's victory over the armies of Absalom, and in Absalom's death, we see God's curse upon him. This story is typical of all that set themselves up against God's Kingdom and His King: all who oppose Christ and his reign will be brought low under God's judgment.
